What is 'human capital'?

While there are diverse definitions, it is generally agreed that human capital bears the following characteristics:

• the embodiment of PRODUCTIVE CAPACITY within people;
• the SUM of people's skills, knowledge, attributes, motivations and fortitude;
• can be GIVEN or RENTED to others - but on a temporary basis, as ownership is non-transferable!
