- his/her skill set - BEHAVIOURAL aspect;
- his/her mindset - ATTITUDE aspects; and
- his/her appropriate knowledge -KNOW-HOW aspect.
Generally, there are three broad (organizational) categories of competency, namely:
1. CORE Competency - applicable to every employee. Normally bonded in Shared Values of an organization.
Examples: integrity, teamwork, respect...
2. LEADERSHIP Competency - applicable to 'position' (that lead others). The label of competency is structured according to the strategic goal of an organization.
Example: Strategic thinking capability, coaching, mentoring, facilitating...
3. TECHNICAL Competency - applicable to job specific in nature. Directly related to functional objectives.
Example: Customer service, legal, engineering, finance...
A high performance organization strategically built those competencies in their Performance Management System (PMS).
